“I’m so sorry.” My friend said this to me when I told him that I had lived off the grid for 13 months. His response made me feel sorry for him. I wished he knew living off the grid is not a punishment but a blessing due to the benefits it provides a person later. Gone are the days when people had to hunt for their food, make shelter, and remain conscious of predators. Now, these things can only be seen in movies or cartoons. Human life has evolved much due to advanced technology. We always want to be in our comfort zone. That’s why only a few people in the world spend some time off the grid. Even people don’t want to learn survival skills as they are sure about spending their whole life with modern technology.
Living off the grid is the best way to learn amazing survival tricks. But why should you learn survival skills? If you grasp the idea, it’ll be easier for you to understand the coming chapters. So, in this chapter, I’ll tell you reasons to live off the grid. That’ll develop your interest, and you’ll boost your skills to handle hard situations. Let’s begin.
1. Learn To Survive:
Undesirable situations don’t always give a warning before coming. For example, your car unexpectedly stops on a dangerous road at night. If you know survival skills, you’ll have the confidence to secure your existence. If you can’t connect to anyone and your car doesn’t start, you’ll be able to spend many days on that dangerous, lonely road due to the applicable tricks you learned.
2. Provide Expertise With Weapons:
You comfortably sleep when you have expertise with weapons. It’s a great feeling that you and your family are secure. If you don’t learn how to make your own weapons, at least you’ll be able to properly use and store them. But if you learn, that’s awesome. It’ll ensure security when weapons are unavailable.
3. Learn Money Management Skills:
If you take a large amount of money on your journey, then you’ll not experience off-grid life in the way you should. People who are passionate about this step move forward with a thin pocket. That helps them stay away from luxuries and explore different things to secure their existence. When you spend every single penny carefully, you learn ways to manage money. After returning to your normal life, you’ll be able to create a budget and manage money. You’ll reduce expenses and become debt free.
4. Gardening:
Gardening skills are helpful in many life situations. When you grow your own food, you eat things that are more naturally grown. You’ll also be aware of medicines or sprays you use and ensure they are not dangerous to your health. People who love gardening feel relaxed about applying gardening skills they learned in off-grid situations. It’s also a great step toward saving money. You’ll not have to set a high budget for vegetables or fruits sold expensively in markets.
5. Get Closer To The Natural World:
No doubt, technology has made our lives comfortable, but we overuse some gadgets, and that affects our minds. For example, the cell phone was a good source to communicate with people. But we have forgotten its basic use and consider it for entertainment. We get involved in useless discussions, watch time-wasting videos, and do many other harmful things.
You should spend some time in a silent world to comfort your mind. Nature works like magic! Off-grid life will help you get closer to the natural world. The beauty of the natural environment will uplift your mood and improve your physical & mental health.
You’ll recognize the fact that you can live without technology (gadgets without which you couldn’t imagine your life). You’ll feel powerful because you’ll explore your hidden skills. Then, you’ll use those skills in hard situations.
6. Value Everything:
In our daily lives, we don’t value blessings such as our home, comfortable dress, water, etc. When you spend a long time in an off-grid world, you recognize the importance of these things. You’ll be happy to feel you have a big home based on strong bricks. You’ll value your dresses that don’t only cover your body but protect you in winter. When you have unlimited water, you’ll be thankful for each drop and consider it the most precious drink in the world. That’s because water is a natural drink; it provides you with strength and refreshes your mind.
Modern gadgets will also become valuable. For example, when you use an air conditioner, you’ll have a special feeling of comfort and satisfaction. You considered cooking a time-taking task. But when you see every ingredient available in your kitchen, you’ll feel the food is almost cooked—you had to search for food for a long time in an off-grid setting.
7. Handling Poverty:
“The difference between poverty and prosperity is the mindset of living out of necessity instead of possibility.”—Farshad Asl.
Poverty is the deprivation of things you need. So, living off the grid is a way to experience it. When you spend money carefully, you know what’s important to buy and what’s not. You learn skills to use available resources in such a way that you have to buy fewer things. When you sleep on the ground for several months, you become less sensitive. When you go outside to search for food on too hot or cold days, your body makes changes in it to help you adapt to such an environment.
There’s nothing guaranteed. Our lifestyle can change anytime. You may get ill and spend everything you have on your treatment. When you become healthy, you’ll enter into a different life. Problems will welcome you into a challenging life. If you know survival skills, you’ll be confident to deal effectively with problems. You’ll not only recover the situation but regain everything you lost.
So, these were reasons to learn survival skills. Let’s explore something new by setting out on your journey.
